If you're a fan of HGTV's popular renovation show Good Bones, you might have noticed that Lenny Murrell, the show's beloved contractor, hasn't been around as much lately. Fans of the series, which stars Mina Starsiak Hawk and her mom, Karen E. Laine, have been wondering where he went and why he stepped back from the show. Let’s dive into what happened to Lenny and where he is now.
Why Did Lenny Step Back from 'Good Bones'?
When Good Bones first premiered on HGTV in March 2016, Mina and Karen took the lead in transforming homes in Indianapolis into stunning urban sanctuaries. The show quickly became a hit, and viewers were captivated by the dynamic mother-daughter duo. Alongside them, Lenny Murrell was a key player, bringing his expertise and hardworking attitude to the table. Together with their team of friends and family, they tackled one incredible renovation after another.
Lenny wasn’t just another contractor; he was part of the blended Starsiak family. Early on in the show, Mina and Karen shared a family tree with viewers, revealing the intricate connections between everyone involved. Lenny's ex-wife, Cheryl Starsiak, was Mina’s half-brother Tad Starsiak’s biological mother. Mina and Tad share the same father, Casey Starsiak. After Cheryl passed away in 2005, Lenny remarried and is now with Ginger Murrell. Despite the complex family history, everyone seemed to get along just fine, and they all worked seamlessly together on the show.

Lenny was a familiar face during the early seasons of Good Bones, but as the show progressed, fans started to notice he wasn’t as present as before. By the time Season 5 rolled around, Lenny’s role had diminished significantly. Fans took to social media to ask what happened. “Just wondering what happened to Lenny on Good Bones,” one fan tweeted in May 2018. “No mention or sight of him this season.”
Where Is Lenny Now?
Unfortunately, Lenny hasn’t returned to Good Bones full-time since stepping back several years ago. Mina’s Instagram page, as well as her account for her design business, Two Chicks and a Hammer, is filled with updates about her work on HGTV and her life with her husband, Steve Hawk. However, she hasn’t provided any updates about Lenny or hinted at whether he might return to the show in the future.
Lenny has kept a low profile on social media since leaving the show. Interestingly, he wasn’t the only cast member to step back from Good Bones. In September 2019, Karen announced her retirement from Two Chicks and a Hammer, though she continues to appear on the show in a limited capacity as a DIY expert.
“Although she is taking a step back from the day-to-day operations, a piece of her will always live on with this company as we carry on with our mission of ‘revitalizing Indianapolis one property at a time,’” Mina wrote in an Instagram post honoring her mom’s legacy with the company.
