“I had just finished crafting a sign for a local Waco business when fate stepped in,” Jimmy Don reminisced on his website. “Not long after, Chip and Joanna were enjoying dinner together when Joanna mentioned the need for someone who could create custom metal art pieces. The couple immediately thought of me, and they encouraged them to reach out. And just like that, I found myself working alongside two of the most inspiring people in the design world.”

One of Jimmy Don’s most memorable projects came in January 2018 when he worked with the Gaines duo to renovate his son Jake’s cabin in Crawford, Texas. This wasn’t just any old renovation—it was deeply personal for Jimmy Don. The cabin, nestled on his property, needed a complete makeover to bring it into the modern era. And guess who made a surprise appearance during this episode? None other than former First Lady Laura Bush!
Jimmy Don had worked with the Bush family before, so it was no surprise that they trusted him with this special task. In fact, Joanna and her daughters, Emmie Kay and Ella Rose, even visited the Bush family’s tree farm to select a tree to plant in front of Jake’s newly renovated home. The final reveal? Stunning. It was a testament to the care and craftsmanship Jimmy Don brought to every project.

Life after Fixer Upper hasn’t slowed Jimmy Don down. After living in the cabin for a while, Jake decided to move out to find a bigger place to accommodate his growing family.
